The Polar Circle Marathon takes place in Kangerlussuaq Greenland on Saturday 29th October. The Half Marathon is on the Sunday so as a real challenge run both in the Polar Bear Challenge. Run past stunning glacier tongues and take in the stunning endless ice landscape, whilst looking out for Musk oxen and arctic foxes. The Polar Circle marathon offers a rare opportunity to visit one of the most remote corners of the world while taking part in a challenging but rewarding running challenge. You can choose to take part in the full marathon or the half or both!

2022 Polar Circle Marathon Itinerary

26th October - Optional Pre-Tour day

We suggest that you arrive one day before the tour starts to ensure you are ready for the flight to Greenland tomorrow. Book your own room at Hotel Hebron located in Copenhagen's city centre. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Copenhagen Central Station, which, in turn, is only a 15-minute train ride from the airport. We also offer an optional running sightseeing tour through the beautiful city of Copenhagen today.

27th October - Fly to Greenland

Meet at Copenhagen Airport, Terminal 2 for your 4.5 hour flight to Greenland. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel for check in. Choose an optional tour or relax and settle into your room. (breakfast and dinner included).

28th October - Course Inspection

This morning all guests will go for the race course inspection. Guests may opt for a visit to the Greenland Ice Sheet. Later in the evening, for those who will extend their stay to Ilulissat there will be a pre-tour briefing. Immediately following will be the official race briefing at the Hotel Kangerlussuaq. (breakfast, sandwich lunch and pasta dinner included)

29th October - Marathon Race Day

After breakfast, runners are transported to the race start. Half- marathon runners rest up for tomorrow. (breakfast, BBQ lunch and semi-pasta dinner included)

30th October - Half Marathon Day!

After breakfast, runners are transported to the race start. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy. All will meet again in the evening for a celebratory dinner. (breakfast and post-race meal, dinner included)

31st October - Departure or Start of Extension Tour

After breakfast this morning, check-out and depart to the airport for the flight back to Copenhagen or Ilulissat if you chose the optional extension. Due to the arrival time back into Copenhagen, an additional night in Copenhagen is recommended. (breakfast included).

Extension Tours and Excursions

26th October - Copenhagen Running Tour

The route has been planned with the beautiful scenery of Copenhagen in mind and we will be running along the canals and the harbour as well as through some of Copenhagen’s many parks. From the statue of world famous storyteller H.C. Andersen, we will head towards the main sights in Copenhagen including the Parliament, the Queen’s castle and the Little Mermaid.

27th October - Tundra & City Sightseeing Tour - £60

On this tour, we will do some sightseeing while our guide shares exciting stories - telling us about everything from primitive Kangerlussuaq to the origins of the base (from the Second World War to the Cold War) and its subsequent transformation into a modern international airport and small settlement

31st October - Ilulissat extension – 4 days/3 nights

Ilulissat is one of Greenland’s most picturesque towns and the best place to see one of nature’s true wonders – the Ice fjord. Ilulissat offers a variety of tour possibilities. If we are lucky with the weather there might be snow enough for the dog sledges to operate otherwise a helicopter flight over the Ice fjord is a stunning experience. These extra excursions can be booked upon arrival to Ilulissat. Please note all optional tours are permitted by weather and/or number of participants and therefore cannot be guaranteed in advance.
